The Froggymouth comes in three sizes: S, M and L

The rule: horizontally, the Froggymouth must be smaller than the size of the patient's mouth so as not to stretch the lip corners .

For information :

• Size Small (Blue Box) is suitable for the majority of children under 13 years old
• Size Medium (red box), for adults and adolescents.
• The Large size (purple box) is called “large mouth size” and is suitable for a minority of adult patients.

No. It is important to maintain a horizontal lingual plane throughout the wearing of the Froggymouth. Standing in front of a book or tablet would cause the head to lean forward, causing the patient to drool and thus delaying the need to swallow.

You can find all the rules for using the device for the patient in this video (1”30). Share this video with your patients to ensure that the device is worn correctly.

The treatment ends when the tongue's position is corrected. A simple test allows the practitioner to determine if rehabilitation has created an automatic response in the patient. As a guideline, the majority of treatments last between 2 and 4 months. We recommend practitioners suggest wearing it for at least four months to ensure patient compliance.

It’s not mandatory, but as we foster multidisciplinary cooperation, we recommend informing your colleague about the ongoing treatment.

The effects of Froggymouth can influence the speed and stability of orthodontic treatments, so it's advisable to keep them informed.

Froggymouth is worn between the lips and is therefore compatible with all orthodontic devices, except for orthodontic rapid palatal expander. In the latter case, you can start functional rehabilitation only once the orthodontic rapid palatal expander device is removed.

Clinical studies have shown that it's not beneficial to wear Froggymouth for more than 15 minutes a day. However, doing so creates no risk to the treatment. Typically, wearing it for more than 15 minutes daily can be seen as a sign of the treatment's progress, in that the secondary swallow becomes part of the patient's body schema. However, ensure patients understand that wearing it twice as long one day doesn't exempt them from wearing it the next day.

There's no need to wear Froggymouth at night. Recent studies have shown that at night, the brain replays sequences from the day to encode daytime acquisitions. In other words, at night, the patient doesn't learn, but rather registers what they learned during the day.

Clean the Froggymouth with water and toothpaste after each use, dry it thoroughly, and then store it in its box.

Wearing the device is not painful. The vertical separation of the lips results in a change in proprioception, which will force the patient to spontaneously find a new method to swallow. This initial discomfort during the first few uses is necessary for the treatment and should in no way constitute a reason to stop wearing Froggymouth.

There's no age limit to start a Froggymouth treatment. Orofacial dysfunctions also affect adults.

The incorrect tongue position is the primary indication for Froggymouth. It can take several forms: atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, speech disorders, etc.

Its consequences can be visual: dental deformations, sleep disorders, etc.

The contraindications for wearing Froggymouth are no different from those of functional rehabilitation.

Maintaining sucking habits (pacifier, baby bottle, etc.), a too narrow palate for the tongue to find a physiological position, and a significant occlusal imbalance (Crossbite, overbite) are the three main contraindications of orofacial rehabilitation.

The sooner, the better, as long as the patient has an orofacial dysfunction and is not contraindicated!

Scientific literature reviews estimate that one in two children (starting from four years old), and still one in three adults, are dysfunctional.

In our patient population, this figure is logically much higher. A literature review published in 2023 in the "Orthodontie Française" journal highlighted that 85% of orthodontic patients had lingual dyspraxia.

Therefore, the majority of your patients are likely affected by one or more orofacial dysfunctions.

The anterior open bite is a consequence of maintaining a swallowing suction.
While swallowing, the tongue inserts itself between the teeth to press against the lip mucosa, creating a gap between the upper and lower incisors.

Reeducating the tongue's position with the Froggymouth, only if it is accompanied by the cessation of sucking habits (pacifier, thumb, bottle, etc.), will prevent the worsening of dental deformation.

If applied early in young children, rehabilitation will also correct the anterior open bite without additional treatment.

The Froggymouth technique makes functional rehabilitation treatment accessible to patients not eligible for so-called "active" therapy, which involves awareness of the movements to be made (traditional rehabilitation).

These characteristics are often symptoms of an orofacial dysfunction: atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, etc. They are therefore a primary indication for wearing the Froggymouth.

The manifestation of these disorders implies an incorrect position of the tongue. They thus fall into the category of indications for the Froggymouth. However, a severe manifestation of these disorders may require specific work in parallel.
